Our client was in mid-renovation of their guest suite when Biddle Blinds was called in to consult. It’s ideal to begin projects during this phase as we can assist in additional interior design decision making.

There are two windows in this bedroom, one arch top and one large rectangular. Both windows are under porch cover, so direct natural light is subdued. We started our decision making with what we had: existing furniture and moldings. The paint color (a neutral with yellow undertones) and new broadloom (a neutral with gray undertones) were decided upon prior to our consultation and both brightened up the space.

The client requested we choose a window covering that celebrated the arch and wood moldings, provided blackout privacy, and matched the feeling of their traditional home but modernized. We chose a full, traversing drapery with a modern two-finger inverted pleat and a blackout liner. The client desired a blue bedroom, so we selected a deep navy fabric named Ellipse Sapphire Night. This viscose rayon/poly/cotton fabric has a heavy, velvet hand, and it’s consistent neutral texture matches the paint. These draperies can be seen from the home’s traditional foyer and they fit into the feeling of the decor with subtle modern detailing.

The focal point is a sleigh bed and matching nightstands with decorative metal legs and graceful curves. We chose drapery rods and finials in a gunmetal finish that matched the bed’s metal accents. Biddle Blinds sourced the coverlet, shams, sheets, pillows and artwork. The navy coverlet and shams are cotton voile in a classic channel stitch and the cornflower sheets are Egyptian cotton percale. The large pillow’s poly/cotton/linen fabric is blue with modern organic shapes named Conceptual Lakeview. The small pillow’s cotton/linen fabric is an ice blue and pink floral named Affinity Glacier Bay. The abstract floral artwork named Vitality adds personality and brings the whole room together. This wrapped canvas print incorporates yellow undertone neutrals, gray undertone neutrals, light and dark blues and the pinks warm up the space. It’s a beautiful, transitional bedroom in a traditional home.
