The curtains were weighing this living room down. Each curtain panel was randomly a half inch off in length and didn’t hang straight (a common problem with big-box store products). The rod over the picture window required four support brackets which didn’t allow the curtains to close completely. The dark rods also drew too much visual attention.

During the day, the view is uninhibited when the shades are neatly rolled behind the new furniture-grade cornices. The wood cornices were stained to match existing trim and bring those colors and textures up into the room. Fifty percent of this room is window, so it was important to choose a shade fabric that visually blended into the room. A black-out fabric was chosen for optimum privacy and TV glare control.

The client was apprehensive about motorizing their shades – and they now say they wouldn’t have it any other way! It was an important upgrade for this room because of the amount of shades and the large size of the picture window shade. Manually raising and lowering five large shades to enjoy one room is troublesome; motorization has simplified morning and evening routines. With the press of a button, window treatments simultaneously or individually move all-up, all-down, to a custom position, or to a ‘home’ favorite position.
